Then that would make it NOT a Turbo.......Only an Electric Intake Device.....a Turbo runs off exhaust or by Belt Drive ( Read Centrifugal Supercharger) to make boost....the other style is the Rootes type ( Read Blower) which is driven by the Crankshaft at a specific ratio....Sorry for Pontificating ..
So a buddy told me of a way to do a turbo with no lag and less work. Electric turbo. On at WFO and off when ya don't need it
An electric compressor would be a supercharger, not a turbo (the latter uses exhaust to create boost). I don't know of any such thing and find difficulty imagining an electric motor that could create that much pressure and volume. Might be a fun science project if you have a mad scientist side to you.
For brief bursts of power, I think nitrous really is your best bet.
(Really I vote for saving your money for a Mustang which would be a far safer and more satisfying way to go fast)
What I understand this to be is an experimental exhaust turbo in a hybrid system with a high pressure electric supercharger (I think you can run a supercharger off an external power source.) Not inconceivable....probably at least a few grand for a workable system that will still probably be a huge hassle. For a 1 ton van? Really?
How about a separate air pump supercharger run off a snowmobile engine and a big diverter valve to ram that airflow into your intake? You could rig up a big lever in the interior.
Nitrous is the cheapest bang for the buck for acceleration displays and contests.
Really, get a Mustang. Unless you do something cool like Jarvis, vans make dorky hot rods....
Building a rear mount turbo is not that difficult, you will need a separate oil tank and pump and filter, a single 5" pipe going forward is all that left and plumb it in to the intake, call/email a turbo manufacturer for the correct turbo, 5lbs boost is nothing and your engine could easily swallow 10psi all day long w/o breaking a sweat but it will require some ignition/fuel remapping so a Recalibrated Chip may also be needed..
Again with this, who's not a believer, I already said it exists, and I also told you it ain't cheap, and if you think you can make your own cheaper, go ahead, you'll end up with more money in it than the cost of this kit when your done, if you can get that far, it is not easy or the market would be flooded with them!
