First timer here, but have 2 questions for everyone.
Just bought my 98 F-150 4x2 5 speed a month or so ago, has about 82K on it and just had it tuned up because the engine felt like it was misfiring on acceleration. Truck was fine for about 800 miles and now it is misfiring again!! Can someone please tell me what in the world is going on? I have never had a vehicle do this before. Oh by the way, I shift some where between 2k-2.5k RPM, depending on what the situation is.
Second, since I do have a 5 speed, I was curious if it is possible to rig the engine to start like a semi does, with no clutch pushed in.
Thanks for the help
Ryan

My answer to your first question would be to install new motorcraft plugs and wires. Seems as though Ford products don't care for other brands. As to your other question I can't answer it , but personally I think it would be a bad idea.
I agree. Fords, especially these modular engines, don't respond well to aftermarket plugs and wires. Make sure the shop that tuned your vehicle used Motorcraft plugs. Your wires are probably worn also. The engines do not do well with moisture down in the spark plug holes, so make sure they are clean and dry. The rear plugs are tough to get at. Have the shop check the codes the computer is throwing also. Codes 301 thru 308 usually indicate a misfire on the respective cylinder. Plug wires must be on all the way also, or you'll get carbon tracking along the porcelain on the plug and they'll just quit. I've tried cleaning them to no avail. Some research will indicate the NGK plugs are the same as Motorcraft and will work, but cross-referencing is a pain. Good luck.
You can bypass the clutch safety switch to make it start, but it is not recommened because if it is started in gear by a remote, it will not stop and could cause a big mess!!
