I'am going to lift my truck soon to 8" and put on 38"x15.50r16 pj's what should I re gear to ? or should I leave it stock?I considerd 4.56 but maybe thats to low?
I did 4.56 and feel that it is about perfect (especially if you're going to tow.
Keep in mind that if you do 4.56's, you can't really go to any tire smaller than 35" in the future.
4.56's and 35" tires = Approximately... stock tires and 4.10's (like the dually)
But, if you're going to keep at least 36" tires, then go 4.56.
4.10's would be ok, too...if you don't tow heavy and might go back to a smaller tire later.

i run 36" PJs and have 4.56's i tow 90% of the time with this setup.. the 4.56's were not low enough!! it puts you at about a 4.10 range with stock tires.. if you want about a 4.30 range with stock tires you need 4.88's!!
DCSpecial can give you exact chart numbers but i promise you this is accurate... with 38's 4.56's will be a bit higher gear than 3.73's stock!

I see you're using a V10. 4.88's on a v10, sure. RDBARON03 and I have Diesels. Our redline is only 3400 RPM, thus the 4.56 recommendation. On our Trucks 4.88's would be good for 42" tires.

on a side note, may i say, no way is a 8" lift of any brand going to clear 38 inch PJ's, maybe could clear 38" swampers, barely, but PJ's measure out taller than swampers and i promise will take your front fenders out uner hard 4x4 conditions... be careful watch for that... i run 9.5/12" lift and my 36" pJs come within less than an inch under max articulation!!

Don't forget about lowering the bump stops.
This is a pic of an 8" Edge lift with 38" PJ's (mine)
With the bump stops, it wouldn't hit.

I'll agree that if you wheel hard and fully articulate the springs you'll be real close to the fender possibly contact it....and that's if the 38" PJ is on a 10" wide rim.
If you mount them on a 12" wide rim (as is recommended by Parnelli Jones) then you would need a 10.5" lift if you off road hard.
Guess it all depends on how you use the truck and the look that you are after....
EDIT: Almost forgot.....The Edge 8" springs help clearance issues somewhat with a 1" push on the center pin of the front springs.
