Mississippi Highway Patrol part of eight-state effort to increase safety over Labor Day weekend | gulflive.com
The increased enforcement will begin at 6 p.m. Friday and continue until midnight Monday.
In addition to increased patrols on I-10 and other state highways, troopers will ride as passengers in commercial trucks donated for the weekend in what Capt. Scott Carnegie called the "Troopers and Truckers" program.
While troopers riding in the trucks will be looking for any traffic violations, they will be particularly watching for other motorists who are not providing a "safe zone" around the commercial vehicles -- engaging in unsafe practices such as following too closely.
When a trucking trooper spots a violation, he or she will call in the tag number and description of the offending vehicle to a regular MHP unit along the interstate. Carnegie said they will work a roughly six-mile stretch of I-10 for a few hours and then move to another section.
"There will be zero tolerance on I-10,"
Carnegie said.

and 98% of the summonses went to the truck drivers, so they suspended the program because they did not want to shut down the companies.

werner was not used, because the drivers kept going the wrong way.

I got my CDL by working a harvest crew about 5 years ago, and for only working sorghum in november, then stuck around the farm through december. If you don't have a family at home I would look into it. its long hard hours, but I had a good time. (I even still have the guys number if you want, he's out in kansas) the only part that sucks about that is that there are quite a few companies that want one year OTR, but if you already have your CDL you don't have to worry so much about that one year contract stuff.

as a side note, for the last two years i have drove truck for the county, and am alot better off than when I swung wrenches at the dealership.

This coming from a guy who's hat sayz "This end up!!!!"

I started in a dump truck at 14. went to tandem dumps at 18, dump trailers at 21.
I owned my first dump truck at 18.
I sold my last Tri axle dump truck 3 years ago, and have enjoyed almost every minute of the years of driving.
If I were able to still get in the truck, I probably would still be making the jake bark

as i tell the kids when they ask my why i don't quit, i have no problem driving the truck, i only have problems getting in and out of it.
lucking i work with some good people, so when it comes time to get out of the truck to get load tickets, they get them for me so i can stay in the cab.
the kenworth is not as bad as the mack because it has extra steps on the driver side.
but it is still a task climbing up there

I'm in a 2000 T8 Michigan Special right now. 3406, 525 Cat, 13speed, 4:11's, double frame, 18k FA, 46 rears. The truck is a total, complete beast. But, no room, it's a day cab, and straight pipes. Plus, I'm getting olde too, it's starting to hurt the first get in the truck in the morning!LOL But wow, does that thing run and pull!!!!

pretty much the same truck here John. 2005 T-800 with the C-13 500 hp and 8LL trans, 8 inch straight pipes. what stinks is the "sweet spot" for the exhaust is 1600 rpm, and that just happens to be where 65 mph is. so it is either do 60 or 70 to avoid the exhaust "cackle"

There is a town by the name of Charlevoix up here. Quite a tourist town for some reason, and a real nice hill going down to the river, and up again, then into a pair of of 15mph corners. You have to hog both lanes on the corners, and you guessed it, some braindead important person will likely try to come around your blindside. But the best part, and normally I don't intentionally do this, is full jakes on the downhill. Well, it is a safety issue you know!!
No one really used to try irritating the tourists, until the town fathers decided it would be the thing to do by trying to ban trucks from the city limits. This is on US31, there ain't no way to avoid it. I'm sure you're like me, and always get a chuckle by the single finger salutes. LOL, I just blow a kiss at them, for some reason, a guy really get's upset when you do that!!!LOL

But ya, once bitten, ya just can't keep yourself out of a truck. There is something definitely wrong with us.LOL
