I have a 2001 Supercrew King Ranch and the seats are still in very good to excelent condition...however there is some care and maintenance required with leather seats. Keep your seats conditioned and they will look and feel great for a long time.
Last January I bought a 2003 F150 King Ranch Extended Cab. The seats are made from saddle leather, about twice as thick as the leather seats in the Lariat model, so they will probably resist ripping or tearing really well. But, they are not treated in the same way as other leather seats, they are, for lack of a better term, very absorbant. You have to be REALLY careful about getting things like grease, soda, oil (like from french fries or other food), etc. on them, they will stain very easily. I went to the King Ranch (yes, it's a real place, www.kingranch.com) website and bought their leather conditioner for these seats ($9.00 a bottle), and I lube up the seats with it about every 3 months. The seats look good, and smell good after I condition them. Also, the seats will darken with age and especially use. So, if your son is careful, and does not eat or drink in the car, or get in it with dirty clothes on, and likes to treat the seats every 3 months, then buy it. If not, go for cloth seats!
I have these seats in my '02 King Ranch. They tend to show scuff marks, (like if you were to run your finger nail over them) but that's part of the character of this kind of leather. I made a matching leather cover for my center console because it gets it the worse. They do clean up nice with a quality leather cleaner.
I have been going back and forth between buying a 2001 supercrew, or a 2003 f250 work truck( 6 speed v10). they both have less then 60k miles, and they want 14k for each one.
My decision was made today when the owner told me for another 1500 bucks, i could have the headlights, symbols, floormats, front seats, and all the other KR inside stuff from a rolled 2003 King Ranch crewcab!!! he wanted the back seats cause his grandkids screwed up the seats in his king ranch!
its gonna be the nicest single cab superduty on the road!
Too bad the wheels were already taken!
ps sorry about diggin up the old post, but i was excited!
My brother has a '99 Super Duty with leather seats. He has a 75 pound black Lab that rides in the truck with him all the time and the seats have some wear on the corners of them but they have no rips or tears in them.
He also has NEVER used any kind of leather conditioner on his seats and hasnt even cleaned them since he bought the truck new in '98.
I think you will be fine.
My son is thinking about a King Ranch F150. He is concerned about how the leather seats hold up. Does anyone have comments about these seats?
Hi these truck are top of the line the seat thought are very delicate you have to clean them every week I use Meguiares leather cleaner it leaves a nice smell and clean and oils very well. Oh you cant spil any water sodas or greasey stuff on them they stain very easy.
