The cover on C7VY: If the wire broke, you couldn't "eye ball" it, you had to peel the cover off, take a look-see.
Sorry Bill. I mistyped 12217. Meant to type C7VY12216A.

I don't know a significant amount about transmissions so please tell me how a transmission could cause this issue.
By "HEI" I am assuming you found a GM HEI/fORD HYBRID dizzy? If so it will have a new coil in the cap. I wouldn't worry too much now. Between a new dizzy, coil, and rebuilt carb I think your problem will be solved. To answer your question about why can it rev in neutral but not in gear, is because in gear it is "under load". In neutral there is no load on the engine. Example, with a weak spark an engine can rev but under load the compression can actually "blow out" the spark on the plug.

Yes, I found one on ebay for $149, comes with pigtail to wire it up and comes with some pretty, blue 8.5 mm plug wires. I got the carb back today and adjusted the mixture screws to 1.5 turns out as a starting point and pulled the dizzy and made sure to find TDC once again and dropped it back in. tried to start it up and it just cranked and cranked I checked the points and adjusted them and got it to run but it ran rough like chuga.....chugga clug chug and it died. it would only stay running if I pumped the accelerator. I advanced the dizzy a little and it still ran rough until I accelerated to about 1/2 way and it revved nicely and then died. advanced a small amount more and it fired and then went POW! really loud backfire, I know the timing is correct unless it is just in the dizzy but I have tried moving it little by little and no better than a rev and die. dizzy problem or carb still need adjustment? thanks for all the advice given, it is greatly appreciated!
