Core Support Mount replacement

I am preparing to install my intercooler. My core support busings are pancaked and basically rusted pretty bad so I am going to change them at the same time. To change these can I just block and jack up the core support to replace these or is there more to it I must consider?

If you can get the bolts out it should be as simple as raising the core support a little. Here, where there is a lot of rust issues, I usually have to cut the bolts, or they twist off. There are also shims on each side from the factory. You may want to take note of how many shims or on each side and put them back the same way, and then adjust from there if needed.

Well, I am going to find out. Still have to track down a few things before I start on the intercooler. If they are that bad I won't touch them for now.

It never ceases to amaze me how much crap collects down there in the well of those core support mounts. I coated the heck out of mine when I pulled it, after dumping the mounds of dirt from it. I went as far as drilling a small hole off to the side of the mounting well at the base, to let water out, and making it easier to flush out periodically so I do no have such corrosion or debris collection issues!

How hard is it to change out the core support? Do I have to break into the AC/condensor system? How about radiator. After looking hard at mine, the welds where the doubled material is at, and where I would be screwing my IC mounts to at the bottom is just too gone. Might as well bite the bullet and find a diesel core support and get it done.

You can swap out the support the support with out breaking the A/C open.
It takes about 4 hours.

GOOD LUCK finding a GOOD diesel support.
NO BODY aftermarket makes one even though they have a listing for on(THey sell you a gasser)

I have a couple of known local resources that I will check. I also travel the midwest on a weekly basis so I check craigslist when I am going somewhere and need something in those states/cities. I picked up my IC in Detroit last week. Found an E99 spider in Indy area this week...

The problem is the rad support is the 1st thing to rust out on these trucks

Some people have taken the aftermarket gas one and welded the diesel extention onto it.

I will let you know when I have one in hand. I found two on C-list but have not heard back from them yet. I think mine is good enough to patch if I had to.

Wild do you know how easy that is?

I am thinking $165 + some supplies beats the heck out of $800
