I have a chance to buy a complete 1966 ford camper special 3/4 ton.
It's complete , with a newer rebuilt 390 and 4 speed tranny . Body is in fair shape , rust in the usual places lower doors , front fenders . But pretty solid besides that. All the chrome is there interior and exterior .
Cab roof has a dented from tree falling on it. Also has after market air
I am thinking about buying it and parting it out. I can but it for less than $3500.00
considering work involved and your description, $400-600 is your break even point for initial purchase. You may move more cash than that but you are working pretty cheap.
If you think you can buy a '66 for $3,500 and part it out for a profit, you know a whole lot more than most of us about used-part pricing -- and how to market those used parts. Think about it: what would be your top 5 most valuable parts: motor, trans, rear axle, etc.? And how much can you recover from those? A Y block is admittedly different from an FE motor: I see dozens of Y blocks -- needing rebuilds -- with asking prices from $100 to $800, but the only ones I see selling are the ones for $250 and less. So what are you realistically going to get for a 390 that has supposedly been rebuilt, but which lacks evidence of that rebuild beyond a lack of built-up grease (I'm assuming it looks shiny and new)?
Agree with the above. Plus, how do you know it's a 390? Every 352 magically becomes a 390 when they go up for sale. No way to tell unless you measure the stroke.
I just passed up a '65 short-wide that actually did have a "rebuilt" (well, ten years ago) 390 in it for $1500. There wasn't enough there to turn a profit.
I paid $800 for this '65 F100 Custom Cab Long Bed. It's a 352, automatic with minimal rust. I gave it to my Dad and he drive's it daily. If you want to part a truck out, you better not pay more than $500 for it. Ford truck guys seem to be on the cheap side.

Yea , you are right about the Ford guys being cheap. I also am on a Chevy site , because I own one and they are always looking for parts and from what I have seen willing to pay to get oem parts. Mostly cause they can not find them any where .
Now, If everyone read my first post , I said I could buy the truck for less than $3500. and the real buy price is $1500.00.
My main purpose was to find out how you all felt about the truck and the price.
One thing I will say is when I am at car shows , I see a heck of a lot more Chevy trucks of this era than fords. I am a Ford man but like the look of the early Chvy trucks.
I bought a solid farm truck F250 with a very solid 352 4 speed for $600 as a parts truck, just needed a starter and starter (flywheel) ring.
I did not have the heart to part it out as she ran too good. I am slowly getting her back on the road. I now have $1130 into her total and only needs the gas tank and gas line cleaned out to be considered a minimum daily driver. Currently running her on a 5 gallon gas can as my emergency truck. She has been up for sale for $1500 on clist for months with no takers and only 5 or so lookers via the phone. I would pass on yours at $1500 unless you want it for a daily driver and it has very good tires less than 6 years old.

$3500.00 is a lot of money for a truck you're going to part out. $350.00 might be too much, considering the rust, tree damage and "supposed" swapped 390 engine.
On sale day, 352/360's magically become 390's!
If y'all think that Ford truck guys are cheap, you haven't been in this hobby very long and/or have never tried to sell any truck or related parts to Dodge, Hudson, Nash, Plymouth & Studebaker nuts.
These are, without a doubt, the CHEAPEST collectors on the planet!
