a/c ?

Im looking at picking up a ranger for an offroad project, ive never had a ford, so my question is, I looked under the hood of a truck im looking to purchase 94 ranger xlt 4.0L 5spd super cab 4x4, and couldnt find the sticker about the a/c system, does anyone know for sure if this is a r12 or r134a system? or how to possibly tell. Thanks

You can tell by fittings. Go to the autoparts store and look at them, and compare to yours. I am not sure but i belive that 93 and newer is r134. If it is r12 then it is really ez to convert it over.

My 1994 F150 was made in September 1994 and it has R134A in the AC. I think one way to tell is by the fittings on the AC. I think...I do not really know so someone is going to have to confirm or deny this...that R134a equipped ACs have the same pnuematic quick detach type connections where the high and low sides are. So look where the R134a would be filled in and see if you see a schrader type (R12) or air-hose type (R134a). Can someone please confirm if this is correct? I have too many doughnuts and hops clogging my brain cells!

thanks guys, i bought the truck, it turns out (asked my fiances brother- he works as a tech and knows his fords) 94.5 ford's switched to the r134a that is for the ranger I know and I believe he said also the other trucks. Depending on where it was made and shipped will depend on the r12 or r134, thanks for the help, and maybe this will help someone out in the future.
