My '77 F-250 with a 460 needs a rebuild. I have a guy who will rebuild the motor which will take 3-5 weeks. However, he also has a 460 out of a '77 lincoln that he says he can rebuild and put into my truck which will only take about a week. I have no idea what the difference in the two motors are. The guy says it probably has bigger valves and should produce more power. Should I just have my own motor rebuilt or should I take the lincoln motor? Has anyone else put a lincoln motor in their truck? Any advice or pros and cons would be appreciated.
Thanks, Dett
I'd be real cautious about having someone rebuild an engine if they were ignorant of the valve sizes. If he scews up does he have the cash to make it right? Every engine has rebuilding quirks and the 385 is no exception. All valve sizes in the passenger/light truck429/460s other than PI and CJ/SCJ were identical until efi.
There was no difference between Lincoln and Ford 460s other than some truck 460s had a better rod based on the 429 CJ/SCJ design.
