I have a '95 bronco, 4wd, with 31x10.5 tires. I had mud tires on it, big mistake ( I drive too much on the highway), and the front tires became cupped bad, especially the front, driver side. Approx. .25" diference between lugs, one high and the next tire lug would be worn low, alternating the whole way around the tire. Anyway got new highway tread, 31 x 10.5's, and tire noise is gone. But front end is humming, somethings wrong, similar to tire noise but starts at about 30 mph and gets worse the faster you go. Sounds almost like the sound you would get from driving in strong crosswinds - kind of gets louder and drops off. Appears to be coming from front axle. Anyone have any idea of what's wrong and what needs to be done. Thanks
It's the tires scrubbing. That's why your mud tires wore so badly. You can run mud tires on the road, but you HAVE to keep the truck aligned no matter what tire you're running. I recommend Firestone's lifetime alignment (~$100) so you'll never have to pay for it again. It's even better when you buy Firestone tires with road hazard, because then EVERYTHING that happens to your tires (within their rated mileage) is their problem.
if they cant align it due to bad bushings and such do they repair those things . I know my front end is in bad shape and not sure were to start. I want to get a lift but figure its a ways off but wanted to do it all at once. but now the front end is getting worse and needing more immediat care?? suggestions steve
Any alignment shop will tell you what parts are worn out and replace them if you want, but some charge for the inspection because they know many people will do the repairs at home. Most will credit the charge toward the alignment/repair cost, so it's not a rip-off if you let them do the alignment.
Firestone will make ALL the adjustments under the $100 Lifetime Alignment deal, but they won't SUPPLY bushings free. If you bring them the right bushings (that they tell you it needs), they'll install them free. Or, they'll order the ones they need and you can pay them ~$25ea. If they change the bushings, make SURE to get your old ones from them - they're obviously worth ~$25ea, and you might need them on a later alignment.
And check to see if they put in new or used bushings... I doubt they would, but I always check stuff like that.
