Everyone always comments that the 6.0 PSD should have "religious maintenance" or "a lot of maintenance"... but my question is... what exactly should I be doing? My service duty is that during the summer I only use it three or four times a month, but when I do I'm driving long distances on the highway with a 7000# trailer. All told I'm expecting to only put 5000 miles on it per year total though, as it sits unused almost all winter.
From what I can see with that service level, other than fixing things that break, I'm basically just looking at an annual oil change and fuel filter change every spring. Is there anything else I should be doing?
A big part of taking care of a 6.0 is driving it regularly.
Other than that the usual Fluids, Filters, and Fuel
-Make sure you're changing the oil per the interval. For the 6.0 it's suggested at 7500, but if it were me, I'd do it at 5000.
-Make sure you have a coolant filter installed to prevent the oil cooler from clogging with silicate drop out. This simple $100 part can save an expensive repair.
-Make sure you change the transmission fluid and filters at the proper intervals. Both the internal filter and external filter located at the front of the truck.
-When filling up, keep some PM-22-A Ford's Injector Cleaner and Cetane Booster in the tank to keep the fuel system lubricated and clean.
-ONLY! ONLY! ONLY! use Ford filters, they are specifically engineered for that engine and any others are imitations and not originals.
What Toreador said. One othe thing you might check into is some kind of device to read live data (scan gauge 2 ) ( dash boss) ( torq app for android)
IMHO you need to get a base line reading on your cooler and FICM health.

The rest is common sense...
Tor, can you give me more details on coolant filter, maybe pics.
