I have a 2011 F350 diesel that has been pretty problem free with the exception of needing the shocks replaced with some quality units. It hasnt been to the dealer for anything except oil changes. Sometimes the trans does shift funny and gives it a bang, but this is only when I'm being super agressive and not giving it time to think lol. So my quesiton is is the ford esp worth purchasing for a truck with almost no issues? It currently has 24k miles and the bumper to bumper warranty is going to expire in october. Should I take it in for the trans shifting issue?

If you don't document any issues before your warranty is up then you are going to get stuck with the bill afterwards no matter when it started to happen. I just traded on my 2011 F-250 6.7l, there are several TSB's with regards to shifting issues.
Yes I would take it in and yes I would look into an ESP. You can look at ESP's 2 ways. One is if you don't ever get to use it you feel you wasted your money, Or 2, treat it like insurance. I have life insurance but I don't hope my family gets to see getting my moneys worth out of it anytime soon. Its there if the worst happens. Odds are you will not get your money out of it, but it is there if you need it.
Difficult question. I feel that it depends on how you use your truck.
Driving 12,000 miles per year makes me lean towards not getting it, or, getting minimum coverage plan which includes roadside assistance if towing.
Some of use drive 50,000 miles per year and its a very simple yes in our case.
By the time you hit 60,000 miles your truck should be paid for if you financed it. If you have an early job 1 truck you may be in a situation where a defective exhaust valve could break off and destroy the engine. More recent (job 3 or 2012 trucks) have possible turbo issues so that shouldn't concern you.
lol, well i dont even drive my truck 12k miles a year because I have a dd, so its probably more like 6k. I'm figuring I still have the powertrain warranty for another 2 years up to 60k miles right? So that should be pretty good for a while.. its just that i've never kept a vehicle, nor had any desire to, for over 3 years, but i love my truck I wanna say I have 26k left on the loan and bought it new. When it gets to the last little bit i'm just gonna get the title from the bank.

Is ESP an Extended Service Plan (covering maintenance and scheduled service) or it is an extended warranty (covering repairs)?

Ford ESP is a bumper to bumper, minus normal wear items and accidents, for the mileage and time period that you pay for. ESP is the best warranty you can get. Avoid the a/m warranties.

I have it on my F250 and also on my wife's MKX. Ive saved several 1000 $$$ on both, not on mechanical but all the computer driven functions that make all the mechanical stuff work.
It doesn't take much for it to pay for itself, pretty cheap insurance.
If you never use it, then mark it off as the cost of doing business.
If you're interested in an Extended Service Plan (ESP), then I recommend checking out this website for more information: Personalized Vehicle Owner Information. You can also contact our ESP group directly at 877-794-6434.

Thanks for the info crystal but the price quote on your website is way too high.
I would be interested in purchasing but at a discounted price.
I'll be looking to replace my truck at the end of 2014 or beginning of 2015. Whatever I buy though I'll get the extended warranty after the problems I've had with this truck so far.
I've done some pricing on ESP and here is what I've come up with.
An ESP plan is probably worth purchasing at the time in which you initially make the purchase. The more miles the higher the price. I refuse to pay 3k on a warranty. All a warranty is is coverage on parts you can't afford. If my truck reveals multiple issues as it ages (beyond occasional) I will trade it in for something with a less complex design. So far I've been lucky but I expect a starter, alternator, or radiator to fail at some point in it's life and for that I will be patient and take good care of it.
My opinion is an ESP is not worth it and if I don't have faith in Ford than I should be looking at something I do trust such as a custom built antique clone that I can work on myself.
You are correct about ordering it with the truck, especially if you can get a good deal.
If I could do it over, I would have purchased mine when I picked it up since they offered it for $1,500.
Turbo's haven't been giving people much of a warning. Just an example.
Heck, my left mirror stopped working suddenly a day after my turbo stopped working.
Tow truck took it in with a useless turbo and a dead mirror.
