I think I would like to put rear steer on my new project truck, what do you guys think? Good idea or not? And has any one here ever had any dealings with such a setup, or any one ever had one, guys give me a list of pros and cons.
If cost is no problem then it is possible to make copy of what the monster trucks use in a smaller version. They steer by using hydraulics and is the most responsive system I can think of. They have a self centering system for straightening up after sharp turns and rear steer lock out.
You could have some fun if you used this sytem in a rock crawler. You would be the envy of that crowd for sure!
On the downside if the rear steer malfunctioned at highway speeds it could be dangerous. I would test it thoroughly before hitting the road.
Oh I almost forgot. Do you want it to steer the same direction as the front or opposite for sharp turns or both ways?
I’m thinking it should be controlled in the same manner as the monster trucks. With a pair of switches or buttons on the drivers’ door or even in the floor board, as so you can turn them any direction you wish at the moment you need it, and a self center button, as for highway speed I’m thinking of some sort of manual lock out pin. (You got to get out and remove the pins before it will function)
As for the lambo I bought one (replica) took 4 tubs of Vaseline and a crow bar to get in it and I only got out once (the jaws of life are kind of rough on the pain job)

I have four wheel steering on my 78'. Nothing like the quadrasteer system. That is totally computer controlled and ran on servos. The whole kit cost around a grand from avalanche engineering. That was years ago though. The only con i can thank of is do you take the truck through nasty enough terrain to need it. I was taking mine to Moab long before there was an interest in driving trails you probably should not walk down.
