6.4L Fuel Rail Code

Hey all,

Having a bit of an intermittent problem with my 2008 F250 with the 6.4. A couple weeks ago it started shaking violently and stuttering while driving. Did it a couple more times in the span of a few minutes, then went away and was perfectly fine for a few days. Has been doing the same thing off and on over the last couple of days. Always seems to be when the truck is warmed up (driving 50+ km or a really hot day). Don't seem to have any problems with the truck when it's cold.

The engine light flashed on briefly today while it was shaking and stuttering. Hooked up the scanner and found code P0194 "Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor A Circuit Intermittent/Erratic". Any ideas as to what is wrong here, and could this be causing the intermittent shaking and stuttering problem while driving?

I'm new to Fords and diesel trucks, so any and all help is much appreciated!

A bit of advice. Don't dink around with this. IF you are having HP fuel pump issues, and it dies, you could be looking at some serious serious coin to fix the mess it will make. Been there done that.

1. Access connector C1278 on the front right of the passenger valve cover.

2. Backprobe the Green wire going into the connector, valve cover side.

3. This is the fuel rail pressure sensor voltage wire, turn the key on, see if the voltage is erratic. Wiggle the engine harness and verify if the voltage jumps or falls.

4. If the voltage does become erratic, check the engine harness near the radiator for chafing or damage.

yeah that is for sure my problem happened when i went on a camper trip right after a new HPFP install under warranty from the fomoco so it is something to address.[ the mech. told me it was around 6,ooo$ worth of work] but it fell under emmisions warranty and a washboard dirt road in the desert shook a wire loose on the #2 cylinder after the work and nothing since has gone bad .good luck.

Thanks for the help guys, I am planning on ordering a new rail pressure sensor and getting it installed ASAP. Looks like sensor is only $35-$40, but I'll be out a few hours of my labour I think, looking at what all has to come apart to get access to it. I have parked the truck for now till I get it repaired. Anyone know a parts supplier for the wiring harness from the sensor? Might be a good idea to replace it while I'm in there anyway, and insulate it with something too.

Thanks again!

Removal and Installation Fuel Rail Pressure (FRP) Sensor

  1. WARNING: Contact with exposed fuel injector wiring, if energized, may result in electric shock. Use care when working on or around energized fuel injector wiring. Fuel injector wiring supplies high voltage to operate the fuel injectors. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
NOTICE: Make sure the ignition switch is in the OFF position prior to working on the electronic engine controls or the vehicle may be damaged.
Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  1. Remove the RH valve cover. For additional information, refer to Section 303-01C.
  1. Disconnect the Fuel Rail Pressure (FRP) sensor electrical connector.
  1. NOTICE: Fuel injection equipment is manufactured to very precise tolerances and fine clearances. To prevent fuel system damage, it is essential that absolute cleanliness is observed when working with these components. Always install fuel system caps on any open orifices or tubes.
NOTE: Do not reinstall a used FRPsensor. The FRPsensor is a one-time-use sensor due to the crush washer at the bottom of the sensor.
    Remove and discard the FRPsensor.
    • To install, tighten the new FRPsensor in 2 stages.
      • Stage 1: Tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
      • Stage 2: Tighten an additional 40 degrees.
  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
    • Bleed the high-pressure fuel system. For additional information, refer to Section 310-00.

Thank you for the info...
I know now from this statement:

"Remove the RH valve cover"

just too much for me to mess with

So the wet loom is the wiring harness and connector that goes to the FRP sensor and the injectors on the right bank? Had heard I should replace that wiring while I'm in there. Any ideas on where to get one of those wiring harnesses? Have my sensor ordered and should be here within the next couple days.
