Extended Warranty

I will be picking up my new 2013 F250 Lariat Super Duty 6.7L next week. What's your thoughts on extended warranties? This is my first diesel so, I have no clue on the reliability of Fords engines and drivetrains. Are the extended warranties expensive?

At first, the extended warranty does seem costly.
But yes, get the Ford ESP Premium plan.
I paid $1,800 for 100,000 miles.
Get the one that best suits your driving habits, such as the 5 year 100k or 7 year 100k.
So far, it has replaced a quoted $1,100 mirror.

It will be well worth the money if your engine has a failure at no fault to you to cover a $20,000 bill.

You can get it at any time prior to 36,000 / 3 years.
However, the cost increases yearly.
I would have paid less if I would have purchased it with my truck in 2010.

Thanks so much for the advice. I think I'll get the extended warranty.

This is my first diesel also. I shopped around and took the best price I found to my dealer, and they matched it. So far in 12K I haven't had to use it.
I use PM22 in the fuel (about 3 bucks a fill up) and drain my water seperator every month.
Love the truck....

Hi OldParatrooper,

If you have any questions about Ford Extended Service Plans, you can give our ESP group a call directly at 877-794-6434. You can also check out their website here: Personalized Vehicle Owner Information

Also, be careful. Not all Extended Warranties are from Ford. I bought my truck new in 12 and thought I was purchasing a Ford ESP, probably because I was at a Ford Dealership, however it was not the case. I found out when I went to another Ford Dealership for this DEF issue and was told my ESP is not Ford and it does not show up on my OASIS report. From investigating it, my plan is still a supposedly excellent plan. But it is not a Ford ESP. Who knows if I can choose my old diesel shop this may work out better.

Also, ESPs are negotiable in price. And are more negotiable if you haven't bought the truck yet and are fixing to sign on the dotted line.

Good advice, stick with the Ford extended contract only.
I also went with the 7/100K plan just before my basic expired.

I would not purchase a contract from any group other then the manufacturer supported item.

Thanks for all of your good advice. I'll probably wait until just before my regular warranty expires.

FWIW, we have a couple of sponsors on the site that can give you good prices on Ford's ESP:
Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums - View Profile: Parts Guy Wyatt
Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums - View Profile: TroyRD

I'd only recommend going with Ford's program, because it covers essentially everything your warranty covers (minus the deductible)

May want to consider the 200K diesel plan as well as the 100K Premium plan mentioned above.

The trucks come with a 5 year, 100,000 mile engine warranty as standard. It doesn't really seem like the ESP is any benefit when it comes to the engine coverage.

You have to remember, that is just the engine. I know a number of users have been caught out by ancillaries like paying for radiator leaks etc. that would be under the ESP.

I agree, the transmission is an example.

Does the factory 100k engine warranty cover the turbo?
Obviously it's a required component for the engine but for some reason I don't think it does.
If it doesn't, the ESP will pay for itself. It is covered under ESP premium.
If it is covered, ignore me.
