EFI initial timing
I just dropped a new long block 460 into my 91 F-250, and my Chilton's manual doesn't say how to deal with distributer installation and initial timing setting for a TFI ignition, only that timing adjustments aren't possible due to the computer handling this. Any tips would be most appreciated.

I usually start off with the distributer loose, but close, start the motor turn the dist. until it starts to miss and turn it the otherway until it starts to miss. posision the dist. in the middle of the extremes and it will get you by until you get a timing light. Also make sure you distributer isnt 180 degrees out! My buddy on a GM 4.3 did this and somehow it blew out his valve covers! Mushroomed big time! I never seen anything like it! Yours are cast aluminum so it shouldnt do that. His 4.3 burns a quart of oil every 100 miles now on a fresh rebuild! Dont know what else happened!

You still have to drop it in so that you are close to 10*BTDC. The SPOUT takes the computerized advance out of play, that way you get a true reading, not one with the computer trying to help or fight you.
