Ok guys I could use a little info. I have searched and read most of the threads on the vacum leak and just looking for a little condensed advice. My 4x4 isn't engaging. When I turn the switch in the cab the a/c does switch to the defroster vent, then after about thirty seconds goes back to the vents. With the truck off and turning the key, then switching to 4x4 the pump runs for about fifteen seconds then shuts off and doesn't come back on. Suggestions, tips and pictures of what to check appreciated. I tried spraying the vac lines at the hubs and pump and solenoid with soapy water but couldn't find a leak.
It is hard to check with soapy water. You are checking for vacuum, not pressure. You won't always see bubbles.
Unplug the vacuum lines at the frame rail to each wheel. Use a handheld vacuum pump and see if the vacuum holds. If all is well, you need to remove your hubs and clean them thoroughly and re-grease them.
