Lots of women lie about their age, i.e. "I'm 29 and holding.". But have you ever known a car to do it?
I own an '89 Eddie Bauer extended with electronic dash and trip computer. It has nearly 219,000 miles on it - I bought it with about 64,000 miles on it.
I was watching closely when it turned over from 199,000 miles to 200,000 miles but I was surprised to see that instead of 200,000, it was back to 100,000 - the "1" didn't change!
I wouldn't lie to someone if I decided to sell it - but it might be hard to convince them that it has MORE miles on it than the odometer states - especially since the hundred-thousands position is there.
I'm guessing the bean-counters at Ford decided to save 25 cents on every car they made and make the 6th digit a dummy "1".
Anybody else have this experience, or is my odometer malfunctioning?
My friend's van did the same thing. He has a 95 Aerostar with the regular dash and he was at 399,999 and it rolled over to 300,000. It was weird! No explanation that I know of. Strange......
