I got stuck in the mud a while back and a couple things havent been right. When i was stuck my front wheels werent moving even though it was locked and in 4L. This concerned me but when i got pulled out it seemed to work. Even though now i think that wasnt the case. I havent used 4x4 since. I tested it out and they did not spin at all. So i was changing the fluid in my front axle today, it is a dana 44. When i opened the case, nothing... bone dry. I was shocked and worried. I replaced the gasket and cover and was filling it up when i noticed a very solid stream of the gear oil leaking out of the back of the diff where it meets the front driveshaft. Also in the same place where the driveshaft meets diff the driveshaft can be pushed up and is not snug in the socket. I am worried this is very bad. Please help
A better description would be that the yoke itself on the diff side can be pushed up. I think the pinion seal is broken. Any advice is appreciated. Bronco graveyard has a yoke repair kit for ot that has a new yoke, u joint, u bolts, and pinion seal for like 79$. Is that a good buy?/ fix my problem?
Does the driveline turn, but not engage anything in the dif, or does the driveline not turn at all when locked in 4wd?
Whith what you described as the yoke itself moving upward, it almost sounds like you snapped the pinion shaft. I swould say for sure the seal is toast, but it's hard to tell over the internet.
