Aaaahaaah!!! I got my system all hooked up and it sounds awesome! I had a lttle trouble at first, those of you have put a box in an extended cab f150 know what I'm talking about. You either have to pull the back seat off the floor and put a spacer to lift the whole seat off the ground or get a customized box that fires to the floor. I ran into some problems, most of all because I thought I fried my amp, which really sucked, but now that I fixed it, don't ask me how, I am debating whether I made the right decision with the box. I saw in another thread where there was the discussion about spacing inside the box and how much space there needs to be between the sub and the back. Has anyone else reached this point? What do you guys think? And to just shoot it out there I will help anyone who has any questions about replacing the factory speakers and what not if you're interested?
That is true, accoustics alone in most trucks are bad enough. The only problem, however, is that you only have about 6 or 7in. under the seat, and I don't think that a bass tube would fit. Now if I wanted to lift my seat, like I mentioned before to accomodate the tube, I might as well use the sub box I had in the trunk of my car. Thanks for the reply.
heres what I did I got a proform mtx box made for ford trucks it fits under the back seat and it has 2 mtx 8 inch subs sounds really good and you dont loose space for people to fit it works for me
That's probably the direction I would have gone it I didn't already have two 10" subs. They are Kicker Comp 10's and they were in a sealed box in the truck of my old car. So I kept them and was going to try and devise a way to put a sub-box in there and found this site of all sites and realized that I was trying to re-invent the wheel. So you have MTX subs, are they sealed or ported? What kind of amp, crossed-over or full, what kind of deck, I ask because the stock deck is crap.
Well I got the proform box for my 97 f150 so when I just bought my 03 a week ago I knew it would all fit agian. I went with pioneer speakers 6x8 3 ways cause they fit perfect in the speaker holes I have a pioneer deck it is like the p8000 series i think it came out in 98 it is 45 watts and then I have the proform 2 subwoofers 8inch it is a sealed plastic box. And I have a mtx amp cant remember which amp. I run the speakers from the deck and the subs from the amp it is crossed or bridged. I have only a pos and neg coming from the sub box pos is on the right side pos and the neg is in the left neg but there is 2 spots for speaker wire so it is bridged if you know what I mean. Im no expert on this stuff but I hope you know what I mean. I had it installed on my 97 then I just copied it on my 03 so I didnt have to pay for another install.
Hmmm . . . If I got that right you connect the one set of wires from your amp to the right side pos and the left side neg. That would inside your box the other pos and neg are connected. I have known people to do that if you have only a 2channel amp and 2 subs. I will scan a home made illustration to better explain what I mean and post it in my gallery if you want to take a lokk at it. As soon as I figure out how to do that.
I was wondering exactly what size the replacement speakers were for the doors though, thanks. I like the mtx amps with the "thunder" and "lighning" sounds like you have a good setup. I just got my new amp in the mail today, a pyramid 600 watt. The only problem is it doesn't have a built in crossover. I have two seperate crossovers that I will use to do it though.
You mentioned you weren't too savy. Cross over means mean taking out the highs or lows. In amps that don't have crossovers, the signal that gets sent to your subs is "full" meaning that if it is going to subs, then your sub will have all the voices and what not, not just bass. A low cross takes out all the highs, your voices and melodies, and only only gives you the bass. It is a cleaner sound and hit for your subs. whereas a high cross would be for tweeters and smaller speakers like 6s or some people even high cross 6x9s just for the crisp clean highs, and no bass.
Some decks even have built in crossovers for the RCA Cable outputs. My old car that I traded in for the truck had a Panasonic deck that rocked it had the set-up I just mentioned, so I didn't have to worry about a crosover in the amp, because it already got a clean low signal from the deck. So that in turn allowed me to turn the treble allthe way up on the other speakers in the doors and back, for my highs. I miss the old maxima sometimes, but I can't climb QUITE as big of hills as I can in the truck.
Hey man you can pick my brain any time you want, I am mor than happy to pass on the info. Just don't be afraid to explore your setup. That's the only real way to learn the ins and outs of audio systems. Anything else, you know where to find me.
yea the pioneer deck I have has the crossovers in it so I dont have to do it with my amp. So yes I get full bass out of the sub no voices.
pionner 6x8s 3 ways they say they are for ford and mazda
