Intercooler boot torque?

Hi, anybody has the torque for the intercooler blue boot at the turbo and on the tube side? Some say 108 Inch pound. At that torque, the spring is completely compressed.

I do not want to strip that clamp nut. I normaly tighten until the spring is compressed then a little more, never had an issue but saw so many post with blown tube.

Thanks

I've never torqued one although I have double nutted them. IMHO if you get the oil off the surfaces (some even use hair spray), get the tongue in the groove of the hose right, and tighten it down all the way it won't blow off easily.

I believe I saw the torque value stamped right on the clamp. I'm not one to use the torque wrench on something like that, but I'm pretty sure it was stamped on there.

I will check that on the clamp. By the way, one clamp has some bracket through the boot, I ordered a new boot but no clamp, wonder if I need those bracket

My OEM boot clamps had like a staple or something through the boot.

Other than that, I would like to see the photo too!

Mine had that also. It may be the original boot from when the truck was built. I think it was designed to ensure the clamp was properly positioned on the hose.

I guess I can just remove those staples and put the clamp back on the new boot?

Yeah, you don't need the staples. But I would use new clamps.

Bracket = Staples?

Keep the old ones for spares.

For what it's worth, the torque value is probably only good for new clamps with fresh springs.

There is no indication of torque on my Ford Clamps. I will put some hair spray today and torque it down to near 9 ftlbs

The spring should be completely compressed. Many people under-tighten them when they don't use the torque spec and that is why there are so many blow-offs.
