I have a 2003 f350 with 190,000 miles egr delete and straight exhaust. I want to run Matt's srl tune what I was wondering should I just run it on the stock bolts and if the head gasket blows I will fix it. Or should I stud it and then run the tune just don't want to spend the extra money if I don't have to. But don't want to damage the motor with the tune and stock head bolts
Just run it, if its not broke don't fix it...My .02
Ive been running a Tune & numerous other power adders since i bought my truck 2 years ago now.
I also pull around a 31 ft 5th Wheel & NO problems so far on the stock head bolts
Note....Mine is a 2006 currently with 119k
If I were you, I would run stock until you can afford to do the studs, since you have an early model 6.0. I have read from multiple sources that the later ones had several differences in installation and manufacturing making them more robust, but that doesn't help you. The problem is that if you do just run it until it breaks, you run a risk of being stranded somewhere as well as a much more involved and expensive repair with more parts damaged to a greater extent.
