Question Ideal steering wheel?

Hi there my current 76 s/cs steering wheel is one that fits but doesn't cancel turn signals or use the horn, what is the best one to fit my rid that will solve these two problems? Other than an original? Or do you know a site where I can find an original at a decent price? Thanks in advance Jen

With PS? A 15-inch diameter fits about right. Options abound so I suggest visiting Summit Racing and looking up Grant steering wheels to find something which fits your sense of design.

Or visit Grant's website & online catalog: http://www.grantproducts.com/

The steering wheel never has and never will cancel the turn signals. Sounds like you need a new T/S switch or need to replace the plastic cam.

Almost all aftermarket steering wheels need a horn kit installed.

i've got the grant GT kit in mine, it came with 2 little pins you insert into it to activate the turn signal cam.

the horn button should work, you just have to follow the directions. some horns ground through the column, others do not. i pulled this wheel from one that did not, so the horn but had been previously modified and won't work in my dent. i added a kicker button on the floor.

Steering wheel has nothing to do with either of these problems.

Vinyl horn pad attaches to steering wheel (screws located on backside), includes the horn switch. Horn relay could be bad, located under hood on fender apron.

Turn signal cancelling cam is broken if signals don't cancel. It's made as part of the turn signal switch.

How do 2 little pins in a steering wheel adaptor activate the turn signal switch?

sorry, mis worded. there are 2 little pins that catch the cams on the turn signal switch and turn it off when you are returning to center. they are in the same spot as the bumps on the factory steering wheel (at least the wheel my truck came with).

The pins are placed into the adapter or it might have been a part within the adapter. They go downward to engage the cam...I did not have the best of luck with that setup and sent it back.

That was on a original 73 column.

I have a Ford sport wheel on a tilt column now but much prefer the original in my 73 that was larger. Just feels better to me.

Fact or Fiction?

Put a 78-79 Bronco steering wheel (which fits) and maybe your results will be different than mine. I doubt it.

What part of the steering wheel itself blows the horn or cancels the turn signals? None. Horn pad sold separate of wheel, cancelling cam part of turn signal switch.

The same thing applies to 1978/79 F100/350, Bronco and Econoline, but these use different steering wheels, turn signal switches and horn pads than 1973/77's.

ND you're being too literal. I'll give you the horn pad. But the turn signal switch self cancel feature is actuated by the circular human interface device which houses said 'horn pad'

Here is the horn pad (1971/77 same, 1978/79 different). 13318 (T/S Turn Off Cam) mounts to wheel, interacts with cancelling cam that is part of the turn signal switch.

Yes, back when Quality was Job 1, when this crap was still on the shelf. You would need to pull three parts to make the assembly. Nowadays, these guys, and gals, are pulling these things outta wrecked rigs. Walking in the office and dropping a Jackson for it. And they screw the horn pad back on before doing so.
