Do the 1980 f-150 have the old free on a/c system? If so can they be upgraded to the new a/c system?

 

Most all had the old r12 till around 1994 or so when the gov mandated using the r134a. You can buy a kit in Walmart to use the newer r134a in your older system. You need to do a lot of reading about it though, education will guarantee you better results in your conversion. The A/C system is like anything else, you need to know a little bit about whats going before you work on it.

 

Alright I'll look into that. My truck is missing the entire a/c system, so if there's an upgrade that's less expensive or if the old system will do.
