What was the stock rear bumper like on the 1963 stepside bed? Was there a "factory" rear bumper? Were the bumpers supplied by the dealer (who bought them from whoever gave him the lowest quote, I suppose)? If there was a factory rear bumper, can someone post a link to photo of one?
I currently have this big rusted slab-o-iron on mine (with a very hacked up trailer ball welded onto it). Wife said to just get a new one (er, bumper) but don't know if there was such a thing.
Welcome Bob! The words are Flair Side! Yes they came from the factory with or without the bumper in the old days. Brackets for a Flair Side rear bumper are available in the aftermarket, I'd tell you where but the names of these companies get deleted. So you will have to figure that one out. The bumpers are available on e-bay and once in a blue moon I find one. Sorry I don't have one today but they are out there. They are a simple piece of channel about 5 inches wide and almost as wide as the rear fenders. Check the picture gallery.
When you write of a simple piece of channel, I assume you are writing about the 'black cold rolled steel' bumper. Is this right? My front bumper is painted white, but all I find online are the chrome jobbers. I'd assumed (foolishly) that there would be an equivalent rear bumper.
