I've been looking for a better job lately and see a lot of machinist and CNC jobs in and around Central Point. Just wondering if it's a good place to live, what housing costs are, etc. Kinda nervous about it, but anything's gotta be better than my current job situation and state. Thanks for any advice!
If you like HOT during summer, and cold winters, it's a nice place.
Drier, dustier than most of W.Oregon, but in a nice area as far as recreation.
About jobs, I know nothing........Just like all of OR. except for Portland, we are still learning how to live since the timer industry was destroyed by the environmentalists.
Awwwww, come on Junk, it's not that hot or cold.... we have 4 seasons down here.
Sand Man, cost of living is a little high, but probably not as bad as where you are. Most of the machinist or CNC jobs don't pay much. Around $10-12/hr. Hope this helps a bit.
I have an interview soon and the job pays more than twice what you're quoting. I have two friends that live there and they both claim it's a great place, but then again they want me to move there and I hope they are painting an accurate picture. Thanks

Take care, J
You tell me that middle of next month, when it's 100 in Medford and only 75 here.....and January when you get the freezing fog......Brrrrr!!!
All aside, It is real nice down there, and a added plus is it's far from ultra liberal eugene and Portland.
Just thought I'd tie up the loose ends of this thread: I took the job and in the 4 months since, I could not imagine a better company to work for or better people to work with. The place is Erickson Air Crane and they are a dream to work for. I've always heard of people loving to go to work, but never thought I could be one of those folks. I am now. I'm still in a transitional state on living here full-time, I currently work 4 days and commute home on weekends. As the father of a 13 year old, my son will likely finish his 7th grade here in NorCal. By then we hope to have our house sold and be able to buy a house up here. There's so much more to do in the Medford area than at home. When I moved here in August I was amazed at the diverse recreational stuff there is here. Drag racing, dirt oval, go-carts and a shooting range are all at the Jackson Sports Park, dirt bike stuff is everywhere, lots of gun stuff for my son, shops for my wife and hiking trails for my dogs. Gas is cheaper, sales tax is non-existent an houses are more affordable, plus I make more and work for a great supervisor and a great company. Yes Medford has 4 seasons, but it is what it is. It's nice to be proud of what I do and where I work for the first time in my life.
