"83 in signature, I hav to park on incline because it seems to loose the prime setting over night or when sitting for 1/2 hour after driving. Checked for leaks and cannot find any sweating areas. Pulled vacuum test on mech. pump and she was pulling 18 ps, held for several minutes after shut off. This truck for months has been sucking air in front tank and only running off rear, now the siphon issue. Appreciate suggestions.
Somebody else was having a siphon issue not to long ago. See how long it will hold. If it looses it after a 1/2 hour then won't start you may have found your problem, and somebody elses.
we've all fought this air intrusion problem at least twice. you can read a thousand threads on the subject, we've all been there.
in short, check all your connections, replace the return line kit if its old, replace all other rubber parts in the system (olives), and go from there.
or if you don't like fighting, install an electric fuel pump like i did - see my post on the subject in the FAQ sticky on top of this forum for details on how i did it
Well, the vacuum held for 44 min. Before I hooked it back up. I sprayed a soapy solution around everything and no foaming. Most hose, o ring and leak down stuff only 15K miles or so. Water in fuel separator by passed. Truck is getting worse. Wonder what fuel pressure should be before/after filter?
I think I read on here or somewhere else the 83-86s were prone to cracks on the fuel pickup tubes. That would be a source of air intrusion. You could try starting it up and running it on a gas can or such. Shut it off for awhile then see if you have any starting problems.
