Sorry for my ignorance, I am usually prowling the pre-powerstroke forums.
My mom has a 2003 F-150 2x4 with the 5.4 Triton V8. For the last few years we have had problems with the climate control system, where when we get in the cab and turn on the A/C it blows as hard as it can through the floor and defrost. If we turn the temperature setting up and slow the fan down it will eventually change to the vents. Once it is on the vents we can slowly turn the temp back down, but if we do it too quickly it will once again change to the defrost and floor.
We once had a mechanic tell us that he thought he could fix it but it would be a $100 part and knowing him it would end up costing around $1000 all said and done so we decided to pass.
I cannot remember what the part was and would like to change it. Please any advice would be appreciated.
Vacuum leak. The blend door operates off of vacuum. I just fixed mine two weeks ago. There was a degraded rubber hose on the passenger side at the firewall. Take a peek there or take the center dash apart and get to the line that runs to the control **** that lets you select defrost, floor etc. Good luck.
Would you be able to give extensive directions / pictures that would aid my repairs? Also parts list and pricing would be appreciated. Thank you for your response.
Look at all of the vacuum lines under the hood. There are hard lines connected by soft rubber lines, the soft ones degrade and turn to dust. It's really not that hard. My repair was $5.
