I'm looking into doing a cummins swap and I don't want to use the pos 47rh it has. I want to keep a manual and I don't really need OD, I plan to lift the truck and out it on 37s or 38s with 3.73s and a SAS. I want to know if I can get an adapter plate to mate the cummins to the t18 or whatever, I don't want to has to buy an nv4500 but I don't mind buying a ford tranny. I'm looking to keep my 4x4, and the donor truck was 4x4 also. If it matters my t18 is mated to a 300-6 and a np231 or 241 whatever ford used.
My 4 cylinder Cummins came with a small block Ford adapter and T19, I pulled the T19 and have a ZF5 from a 300-6 to bolt to it.
The adapter, flywheel, and the necessary starter and spacer will run you anywhere from $500-1000 used and will only fit an 11" clutch. An aftermarket adapter ($$$) will fit a bigger clutch if that is important to you.
Do some calculations before dismissing the overdrive. The cummins has a very low redline, so it will run out of steam if you plan on using it for a highway driving. I know you are running bigger tires and know your gear ratio, but I would run the numbers to figure your top speed with this combo.
There are companies that make swap kits for the cummins into the Ford, and like the previous poster said, cummins made repower kits for Ford chassis bread vans, and the 4bt stuff will fit the 6bt.
The 4bt was kinda what made me make this thread. I don't plan on going past 75 maybe 80 and I'm also going to do the 4k gsk also to raise the redline. I've read how to build a Chrysler auto and I know how expensive it is, and being a teenager I really need to weigh out my options. I would love to keep overdrive but since I probably won't defeat I figured the granny gear would be useful and keeping the auto would mean it breaking faster. I'm not looking to get mad power, maybe only 300-400hp max and I figure after all the swapping and stuff the t18 would be stronger and last longer than the same cost Into a 47rh. Plus I would retain the manual I so dearly love lol.
