Hey guys, i am looking for some good sounding exhaust for my 1990 f250 with a 351 windsor. Right now i have 2 1/4 inch straight pipes but i dont really like them. i am looking for something low and grumbly, and loud. Any suggestions? videos?
For low and grumbly, try switching to bigger diameter pipes. 3" usually works out pretty good behind a 351w. Otherwise, look into either a few Dynomax Bullet "mufflers" to tame it a little bit. I have 3" duals, no cats, and a set of Summit Street and Strip mufflers behind my 351w and it sounds really good. The Street and Strip mufflers are identical to the Flowmaster 40 for less than half the cost.
Having dual 3 inch pipes is way too large for a small block V8, especially a stock or nearly stock engine. They won't scavenge well at all. I would go with no larger than 2.5 inch duals pipes and a good pair of performance mufflers.
While I usually don't suggest this brand, it sounds like you want something like a Flowmaster 40 or Super 40 for mufflers. Thrush Welded is nearly the same thing and costs less.
Also for a deeper sounding exhaust, don't run tail pipes. Just install turn downs on the mufflers.
