If your O2 sensors begin to fail or send a incorrect or poor signal to the cpu, what would be a "tell tale" symptom? My truck was running excellent, yet recently began having MUCH less power throughout the rpm range. I recently did a full tuneup/exhaust change and saw quite an improvement. I have also double checked the timing. However, doing some work under the truck one of the sensors might have been bent recently. I am wondering if that could have caused the sluggishness.

Could be. Better of cheching the computer for codes. A scanner costs $25 or less. Reading the codes can tell you if O2 is bad or off. You can test it with a voltmeter and a Haynes manual. Your truck will run without the sensor plugged in. the computer came with a default program that it runs the truck in if it doesn't get reliable info from the sensors. Did you change timing? Have SPOUT removed? Check for loose plug wires or fouled plug tips.
O2 sensor sets your air/fuel mixture. If you are not running lean or rich this probably isn't the problem. Even if you are, the O2 sensor may not be the problem. It could be several other sensors, or part of fuel, spark or emission systems. Best bet is get codes.
i have a 1990 f-250 5.8L and the oxygen sensor went on it right after i got it. most telltale symptoms are running extremely rich, a loss of power, and a decrease in mpg. also, you should check your catalytic because these are also syptoms of a bad cat.
After I put the tranny in, and got my new exhaust welded up neither of my O2 wires were long enough, so I drove it that day without them. It ran very well, it cut out every once in a while but no codes or check engine light came on. Once I lengthened the harness's it ran well without cutting out. The cat is empty so its not clogged. All the wires and plugs are new and solidly connected. I am going to swap the O2's and see what happens, I suppose. Thanks for the help.
I picked up a couple of O2's from autozone for $45 a pop. I rechecked the timing again with the spout out. I am at 10 degrees still. I think they did the trick, its running well and smoothly. I think I might bump the timing a bit for some more oomph.
