So my moms laptop (yes pro-bono ) is SUPER slow, and i don't mean virus slow. like 20 minutes to get to the desktop. I ran Memory test, no bad sectors. I am thinking it is the hard drive. SO I install a new hard drive and try to load Windows 7 on it, but the disk drive now wont load the disc. So now i get my IDE/usb adapter and hook up an external cd drive... but it won't recognize it no matter what Boot order I put it in.

I just now swapped lasers in the CD drive and still no joy. Any ideas?

Oh some other info,

It has a Pentium Dual Core T4200 @ 2Ghz
4GB RAM, Windows 7 64bit

It literally took 7-8 minutes to open the device manager.

Is this a hot swappable drive??

Try removing it and blow on the contacts then slam it back in place..

That sometimes works...

Another thing to try is putting the windows 7 cd on a thumb drive and load it that way

Don, I have done that like 10 times, each thinking that it will work. It was spinning the disc. but never fast enough to load I guess, I put a new laser in it and not it won't even recognize it.....
