transmission problem
I have a 1995 Ford F-250 with a 460 gas engine & EFI, the trans is an auto 4- speed W/ overdrive and 4 wheel drive. The problem is every few days the transmission starts to shift rough. It kind of bangs into 2nd, 3rd etc. If I disconnect the battery for a moment and then re-connect, the truck then shifts smoothly for a day or two. What is going on here? What can I do to get a permanent fix?

i would have it scanned there is problably a code in there. sounds like its a computer problem if when you disconnect the battery and clear the memory and it works fine for a while until the computer learns to run like it is again.

this website can tell you how you can run a code test yourself or autozone might even do it for you for free hoping you will buy the parts from them. but this wbsite has most of the codes as well

It sounds like it may have a bad neutral safety switch. This also tells the computer which gear the tranny is in. I replace the one on my Windstar when it quit shifting all together. It was about $25 at Auto-Zone. I never got a code on this or a check engine light. It is located on the tranny behind the shifter linkage.
