Red line

This is probably a dumb question but has a simple answer.. Anyways, I recently got a 1989 Ford F250 7.3 and was curious as to what the red line right at the 55 mark on the speedo is for. I assume its something to do with overdrive? I don't have the owners manual, just an aftermarket one and it doesn't say anything about stuff like that. Thanks!

Back in the day 55 was the national speed limit, so the red mark means "hey dummy, you're on thin ice beyond this point". As if anybody paid attention to it, and now it just looks out of place.

That makes sense! Figured it was something simple.. I was kind of treating it like it was an overdrive indicator like "Hey dummy, you really shouldn't be in 4th gear anymore". Thank you!
