My 91 has stock suspension but 33s on it. It is a 4x4, When turing the wheel all the way I have tire rub on the Torsion bar I think it is? back behind the axle, going straight back from the spindle? towards the cab. As it is part of the suspension, would a lift cure this rub? or should I get spacers or deeper reccesed wheels? Thanks
my '85 150 does the same thing, rubs when you turn wheels to right or left.i personaly don't worry to much about it since they don't rub to bad. in your case,go with wheels with a different
backspacing to push the wheels away from the radius arms.
don't think lift would cure problem, unless different arms are installed. my '85 has 33's on it & taller coils with quad shocks,&
they still rub. just a suggestion.
Ok that is what I figured. Oh well, I miught just go with 1 inch spacers for the time, I do not have the moey for new wheels. It has on after market wheels White Farm wheels with less back spacing, bringin the tires in some.
Spacers are a bad idea, they are even illegal in Massachusetts. Lift doesn't help much, I have one and I have special radius arms that are bent in to avoid that. You just have to get the right spacing on the rims.
I was told the they move the weight out on the spindle, thus causing premature wearing on the spindle and bearings. I don't know if it is true or not, but I had a Bug with 4bolt to 5 bolt adapters and Cragar SS 5 spoke rims. The spindle had a grove in it from the spacer/adapter I was told. I know it is a different setup, but take it FWIW.
On the pre '97's they're called radius arms. Just about all of the companies that make lift kits have them. I'm not sure how they would work without a lift though. I'm sure the companies customer service people could answer that though.
