I wouldn't know. I could never get the door to close on one. I'm too tall for them @ 6'5" and a 36"-37" inseam. My knee would sandwhich between the steering wheel and door panel causing me to not be able to clutch.

Okay....here is a couple pictures. Not the best paint job in the world. But hey, like when we started this project discussion, we knew it was going to be beat up by chickens eventually. I learned a lot during this project that will allow me to do the next one better.

I can still wet sand and polish this paint, I haven't done that yet at all. The roof and the hood have the worst orange peel. I just couldn't get the hang of laying the paint down on those big surfaces.

On to finishing the interior and then the flatbed.

You have inspired me Ray!

My truck is 2E (Light Canyon Red)
I'm thinking the Safety Red with maybe a little dollop of yellow....
I already have a bunch of repair panels and a straight hood.
I need a passenger fender and a bed floor panel to have all the pieces.

Do it!!.........

Okay, so after little Ray's 3rd birthday party, and a family and friend trip to the splash pad, I got some stuff done. I installed the door locks, and reinstalled all the interior trim/door panels, speakers etc etc. I took it on its maiden voyage to QT. Earlier I had texted Gary and told him I was having a weird issue with the clock. Everytime I stepped on the brake the clock dimmed.....I was scratching my head. Here is the thing. My brake lights worked fine, blinkers worked fine also. When I went on the maiden voyage I noticed as soon as I flipped my right blinker on it didn't work....hmmmm....everything was fine in the driveway other than the clock dimming. So......the only thing that changed was I pulled the headlight switch. Once I got back I went through the motions....found out I had mistaken the passenger side brown wire for the black ground wire.

Gary took the night off and didn't see the text until this morning. But, I was pretty sure when I saw it that the problem was a ground - or lack thereof. Glad you found it.

Can't wait to see the truck. But, you are leaving tomorrow for the interview? When will you have the bed done?

I'm leaving tomorrow night. Departure from Tulsa is at 5:00pm. The interview is Monday morning at 8:30am. AHHHHHHHH!!! I'm excited and nervous all at the same time. THis is a big opportunity. Remington Arms is a dream job for me......I cannot screw this up or I will not be able to live with myself.

Thanks man. The paint will need to cure for awhile and I will need to wet sand and polish but I don't care about that right now......got a big job interview coming up.

Looks good Ray! The bed isnt too far from being done either. Are you going to paint or treat the bed joists before you lay the bed slats to it?

Good luck with the interview also!

Funny....I just did that. Thompson's clear waterproofer. I poured it on heavy around the end grains and wheel well cuts. Smoothed it out with a brush. Looks good. Holly has the camera right now so I will get pics later. The Thompson's was the cheapest stuff I could find. $14 for a gallon and I didn't even use a quart of it. I am going to SOAK the deck boards in this stuff before I put them on.

Thompson's is just paraffin dissolved in mineral spirits.
You can do the same by shaving a block of canning wax into some paint thinner.

I'd rather spend $14 to have them make it for me. It takes 20 minutes to brush this stuff on. If I have to do it once a year and I get 10 years of use out of this thing I will be happy. Judging by the fact I used 1/2 a quart so far I have at least 4 years of applications in this one gallon. For $14 I couldn't be happier.

Thompsons isn't a very sealer either. It is a surface sealer and will turn that milky amber color after the UV rays distort it in a few yrs. I would have just used boiled linseed oil. It's better and probably cheaper. You can mix linseed oil with kerosene and that makes an excellent sealer too.
