Exhaust questions...
I tried a Borla cat-back, split rear dual exhaust. It sounded OK, but not as loud as I was looking for. Then I tried a glasspack. It sounded sick.

So I thought maybe my converter was the problem, too much restriction. So I fabbed up a straight pipe to remove the converter, and that absolutely made my truck sound like a$$. So I finally went to a muffler shop and spent the money to have it done right. I had the flange cut off after the cat, just before the pipe crimps down from 2.5" to 2.25", and they custom fabbed a Y, then ran duals off the cat. They finished it off with 3"x20" chrome tips, which REALLY helped mellow out the sound and give it that DEEP rumble. This really isn't loud by any means. Just sounds AWESOME! I would never fail a sound test, by being too loud. And it really improved the responsiveness of the truck. I'm tellin' ya man, go no muffler!!!
BTW, check out my www for some pics.

wittman, when you took it to get done right, did they put the stock cat back on ?
Anyways, I'm not sure if I could get away with it here in the great state of NC seeing as there are state wide noise ordinance laws and annual state vehicle inspections which mainly focus on the exhaust emmissions.
Because I'm new to the area and don't really know the laws yet, if anyone out there lives in NC and can help with this subject, please respond... because I really did like the open pipe sound!
I am in NC too. I can tell you that the straight pipes will not get you through inspection. However, around here ALOT of shops don't do the emissions test. They just look to see if everything is hooked up. It is a very popular thing around here to gut out the muffler and cat. It is there for inspection. Who cares if it works. Most shops making $9.40 for thirty minutes of work don't.
