I have 97 f250 LD 136 000 miles and weather it has issues or not I'm always in this forum looking and learning ... down to business
. DOES the EVR solenoid ALWAYS(by always I mean weather the engine is hot or cold or weather is in park or running ) apply vacuum to the EGR valve or only when the DPFE sensor calls it ??
I'm not getting any codes at this time ,I'm just curious about this because it seems that the EVR solenoid is constantly applying a small vacuum weather engine is hot or cold
thanks in advance
I tried looking at the huge thread related to the EGR , but I still couldn't come to a conclusion
The DPFE sensor is the feed back to the ecm on egr function . There should be no vacuum to the egr valve at idle . If you have vacuum , the solenoid may be bad .
At idle you will feel a pulsing action, this is amounts to 1 ingh vacuum, this is normal, just tee in a vacuum gauge at the egr valve and green line

You only biting at bits an pieces of the total EGR operation and will never understand it that way.
The EGR function is under control of the PCM program not the EVR or DPFE.
There are two times the EGR is commanded to operate.
1. At speed when the PCM commands it for emission control.
2. When the PCM does diagnostic testing.
.
There may be a small amount of vacuum present at the EGR but not enough to overcome the EGR spring tension.
.
There is more to this but will stop here with it for now.
Good luck.
