I know the pain... would she happen to be in college at the best damned college in Virginia????
I'll kinda sorta bring it back on track... Before my Expedition EL, I had an Yukon XL Denali that I absolutely loved. When I moved to Tampa from Panama City, everywhere I looked, there were Escalades. I couldn't believe how many people had them. I assumed that there must be ridiculous finance deals going on down here in the big city, so I went to my local Caddy dealer and said "there are four people in my small neighborhood whom all have Escalades, everywhere I look, there are Escalades, are you running some kind of incredible lease program?"
The sales guy says "oh absolutely!! For just $4,900 down, your payments for 36 months are $875!"
That was the end of my love affair with Escalades. Drove home in my Denali and never gave it a second thought.
Yes, UVA nursing school.
If I bought a $93,000 vehicle after getting the price negotiated down to or reduced to say $88,000,
and pay $25,000 down, the payments would still be $1,100 for 60 months. It's insane!
If you're going to buy something that expensive I'd just go pick up a new F-250 and give it to Tim Husky (CustomAutosbyTim.com) and get yourself a new Excursion

if it was me and i was spending $60k+ and didnt want to have a new excursion built. i would wait a year or so and check out the new Lincoln navigator with the new engine options.
The current Escalade is a lame duck model. There are many better options out there such as the Mercedes GL and Infiniti QX. The Escalade and the Navigator are simply outclassed and are at the bottom of the barrel. If you insist upon an Escalade (or a Navigator) however, I would wait for the next gen.
I would certainly explore the possibility of a conversion done by CABT (Tim) as well if you are serious about Excursions.
My 2013 GL Blutec was $10k less than a new Escalade.
28mpg vs 12 in the Caddy.
That's what I would be getting if I was in the market for a full-size luxury SUV. The gas engines in the GL are awesome but to me, the diesel makes more sense in a vehicle like that. The fuel range of the GL Bluetec is nice too.
Looks are nice but when that allure fads you will kick yourself for buying one. I kick myself all the time when I think about mine. Plus I was never able to really find a good service center. I get treated better at a Chevy dealer than a caddy dealer. Reliability on the car is mediocre. Brakes warped in the first year and I had to pay for it. I have a lot of window noise and they say everything is fine. I tried six times to get it fixed but they wouldn't budge. Car was 2 months out of warranty and the paint peeled around the door trim, service writer said it is a known problem but we can't help you now. They recalled my heated washer fluid and gave me 100$, a unique feature I really liked. Well enough of my blabber.
Since my friend gave me his excursion, I haven't driven the lade to work. Its just sitting in the driveway collecting dust. And the Ford service center is top notch.
Oh and you get about 10mpg, not 12. And don't forget you need to run premium or the engine knocks. I tried running 87 until it started knocking.
Thank you so very much for this thread! "I" got an Excursion, even though "she" wanted the Escalade. She is falling in love with the Ex (almost double the fuel economy of our 454ci 1995 suburban), but I had to do some fast talking to get the Excursion in the driveway. She's loves her suburban; therefore, she loves the escalade.
I know it's childish, but the Ex is not only bigger, it's cheaper.
I wouldn't go with the caddy. You'll be paying for a name and paying extra for service, parts etc. But I'm a ford guy of course and on top of that I think for the most part the fords look pretty good.
