I was parked at Walmart the other day, and noticed a group of rowdy kids walking through the parking lot. One of them walked up to a car, opened the Fuel cap and was going to dump a soda bottle into the tank. When I climbed out of my truck they ran like Thieves. The next day I ordered a Locking Cap for my 2011 F250 6.7. If anyone is interested the cap can be ordered from Amazon.com for about $13+ Shipping. See the attached pic with the part number. BTW that little plastic strap that the original cap hangs on will not fit the new cap.
Glad you were able to save someone a bunch of money that day.
Those kids should be taken to their local school and ordered to clean it every Saturday for six months.
Wouldn't surprise me if stupid s**t like that has caused a couple $9000+ HPFP failures, with the owner left scratching their head as to what the hell went wrong.
Just ordered one; $20.40 shipped.
Theves will just cut the fuel lines but at least this will add a layer of protection against this story.
$20 is not worth the headache these kids almost caused someone.
If my HPFP fails Ford will probably blame this cap...

Fortunately most gas engines will tolerate soda better than a common-rail diesel will. Stuff like that gets me upset though, there's never an excuse for vandalizing someone's stuff. I had a Stant locking fuel cap on my Excursion, maybe I should get one for this truck as well.
I've got locking caps on both the main tank and the Transfer Flow aux tank. Besides vandalism protection, it might prevent a well intentioned friend who borrowed your truck from doing you the favor of "filling her up" with 89 octane.
Ford should make a locking diesel cap and a DEF locking cap as well. And they should make a winter front for the diesel. Ford is missing the boat in that regard. Would just feel better knowing the those fluids are locked.
Also I am hearing that thieves are stealing the tailgates, even when the tailgates are locked on these new trucks. Saw a video of some guy doing it within a minute and considering how expensive they are with the camera would like to see it take a thief a little longer to walk away with the tailgate.
