Picked up a set of these rear wheel liners last night and the instructions are terrible. Do these liners go between the metal and the fender flare or just sit up on top? Awful tight fit to get them sandwiched between. Got them installed last night but didn't get the liner in between and thinking that's where it needs to be. Thanks for the help and feedback!

What brand liners? From Ford or Rugged Liners?
It was a VERY snug fit on mine. They rest on the inside lip of the fender flare. Took some wrestling with it to get it in
If rugged liners, I have them also. I used the instructions HERE which were excellent.
There is also a video available for the super duty version, it is not exactly the same but hopefully will give you an idea of how to install.

Thanks for the reply. These are Ford and I have the plastic fender flares over the metal fender opening.
They fit up inside the metal fender. When done, it will be outside plastic flare, then metal fender lip, then new wheel well liner.
Thanks! So they just sit on top of metal instead of being sandwiched? Hope so because that's the way I have them installed now and don't really want to take the wheels and mud flaps off again to try and squeeze them in.

That's correct. I ordered my truck with them, and that's how Ford installed them.
I prefer not to use any kind of wheel liners because eventually it will be very difficult to remove/clean the inner part especially if there's sticky mud.

Humm, not really sure how this is better. So mud flings all over the under of the bed sides, as opposed to being contained to the liners?
Do the liners help keep the underbody clean when you're driving down dirt roads?
Yes. Living in western oregon coast range, where it rains all the time, I wouldn't go without liners anymore. Mud used to get all over the inside of the rear fenders. With liners, they stay clean.
