Thanks, I have a lead on an 300 it is in a 1978 4x4 I wanted make sure it is the year I was told. It is going in a 65 and I want to make sure it will fit and have the "original" look I'm after. Also will a three speed column shift bolt up to a 1978 motor?

FoMoCo changed the 300 exhaust manifold ID engineering and part numbers EIGHT times between 1965 and 1983. Same manifold also used on 1965/74 240's.

I dunno what the casting number prefix will be on a 1978 300. Might be D8TE, might not be.

Casting numbers are foundry marks, cannot be cross referenced to Ford part numbers.

300's from 1974 and later don't look quite the same as 1965/73's...if they have an EGR valve.

EGR valve bolts to EGR/Carb spacer plate, has a tube from EGR valve to manifold.

You'll have to remove tube (lotsa luck getting it off in one piece!), use a specially designed fitting to plug hole in manifold.

Type 3.03 3 speed manual all syncromesh trans same for 1965/74 240, 1965/79 300, will bolt right up.
