I have a 99 f250 and want to offset my wheels. I am currently buying new tires and rims 285/65/18 (terra grappler tires) and want my wheels to stick out a bit. Anyone know what rims to buy for this and what exactly I'll need to do for this? As you can see I'm new to offsetting.
What you need to do is find people with a similar truck that have done it and see it in person. IMO that's only the real good way to get an idea for things. Here is my 2006 F-250 on a Rough Country 4.5" lift. Wheels are Gear 18x9 with 0 offset and 5" backspacing with 35x12.5 Toyo M/T's.
That's how I knew what I wanted. Just so happened to see a truck with the stance I wanted and talked to the owner.
Same. These wheels and tires came off a 6.4 truck that was running around my neighborhood. Guy ended up trading the 6.4 in on a 6.7 and had these and gave me a good deal.
It is my understanding that an "off-set value of a rim" is a part of the axle design . It determines where/how the pay- load is transferred on "wheel bearing" thru the axle . By choosing a rim of different off-set value will change the location of forces on wheel bearings and will cause premature failure (especially those who attempt to tow heavy payloads and fifth wheel type of trailers ).
I pull approx. 12 K lbs 5th wheel with approx. 4K lbs. of hitch weight (payload). When I was considering of changing tire rims , this subject came up and I was discouraged by the reasons explained above . It might also have legal consequencies as well , at least in my case .
