Wont start

Ok guys youve helped me before lets see if you can be my savior again. I have a 86 f150 5.0 4x4. The valve covers have been leaking for some time now and last night i decided to put the new ones on. Had to take the upper intake off to get the pass side off. I got them off and scraped them clean. Put the new ones on then the new intake gasket. Torqued it on hooked all the vaccum lines back up and she ran great. Today I go to drive it and shes doing good and then starts stumbling. I pulled off and it stopped so i went got gas and came home to have it stall and now she wont start. Cranks and cranks but nothing. I am at a loss. Oh i put a new pcv valve on it too. Any ideas??

Pull the codes. It may give you a hint if you forgot to hook something up or something came loose.

I did a bunch of work in my wife's Honda, and several days later the check engine light came on. I pulled the codes, it was a code for the vtec solenoid. Went out to check that item and found I hadn't pushed the connector in all the way when I had it apart before on the vtec solenoid connector.

The thing for the codes hasnt ever worked since ive owned the truck. 2 1/2yrs. A few people have tried and never could get it to work. I did get it to start and drive great. For 5 mins anyways. Then it started stumbling again and stalled out. Now it will start and run like crap until it either stalls or you give it gas and it stalls.

Well, it worked ok till you took it apart correct? I would go over everything you did again, checking all the connections and the hoses. It's easy to make a mistake.

Yeah it ran OK. Still not perfect but perfect compared to now. I took pictures of everything I took off and double and triple checked everything. Someone said that you are suppose to re-torque the upper intake bolts after you drive it so im going to give it a shot tomorrow and see. If not im going back to square one and taking it all back apart and trying again. Maybe I bumped something that I didnt mean too.

Ok im one to update just in case someone has the same problem. I took off everything I already did when I fixed it. It was all correct. I replaced a few vacuum lines that have seen better days. They weren't broke but pretty damn close. Put it all back together and.....still ran like crap. Missing back firing, damn near breaking the motor mounts. Checked for vacuum leaks. Nothing to be seen/heard. Checked fuel pressure with a rent gauge from a store it didnt work. Got a snap on one and fuel pressure was great. It kept me stump for days. Going over everything again and again. Figured what the heck and put on a tps. (didnt get it lined up right) Went and got a icm. put it on tried setting timing and realized the tps wasnt right. Fixed it checked timing again and shocked the **** out of myself on the distributor. Got the timing pretty close until I replace the wires tomorrow. They are arcing all over the place. If I dont come back that means I have it figured out.

There is a bunch of wires going to the distributor. In this bundle you will see one wire that has a connector all by itself, sometimes it looks like a jumper block. This is called the "Spout" connector and you unplug this to set the timing. This keeps the computer from adding or subtracting any timing to the engine while you are trying to adjust it. You then look on the sticker on the radiator support, and it should tell you the setting. It may also say something about the spout. Once you are done setting the timing, you plug the spout back in and let the computer have it back.

Thats what i thought you was going to say.Yeah i knew about that. Thanks for being the one to try and help this time. Went to drive her today and realized I broke the plastic sleeve on the throttle cable so the cable binds so ill have to wait til tomorrow to see if I got everything fixed. Checked the codes again and got a 11 so I should be in the clear

Check the ground plug by the battery, it is a real common problem on 85-86 EFI 5.0s. Even if it is running OK now, take a good look at it. I prefer to do away with the plug and use a ring terminal on the battery ground cable bolt.
