Hey all, I'm new to this but I think its a great place to be. Well anyway I have a '99 explorer xlt power (loaded), I mean every box checked in the options package. It has about 56,000 miles on it and I'm upside in my payments byabout 5,000. I am considering getting a 2000 Expy (EDDITE BAUER), with about 60,000 miles on it. The dealer wants about 20,000 for it. What do you guys think should I trade my explorer in or should I look for a better deal. By the way I'm stationed in Kansas , (ARMY).

Thanks in advance, Emanual
First of all let me say Thanks for Serving in the service. Means a lot to most people especially to me. My younger brohter's in the service too....somewhere out there. Anyhow, getting an expedition is your decision not mine but bear in mind it uses a lot of gas. I average $30 a week on gas just to and from work (30 miles both ways) not including weekend driving to the beach and taking my buddies out diving. I can probably justify having one if you have a family and if your wife works too to help defray the cost of gas. Trust me, it's a great vehicle...it just wants to keep going and going. Then again, you're almost paid up on your explorer, so why not just keep using it and save up for an expedition - I'm saying this in a nice brotherly way, no harm intended For what you guys do, I know you guys are way underpaid, I see it in my brother. Again my hat goes off to you guys. You can always rent an expedition for those special trips. Good luck on your decision.

Definitely go with AN Expy. I had two Explorers prior and won't ever go back. Now about the $20K Eddie Bauer....sounds really high to me, especially with that many miles. Is it 4x4? If not, look around, you should be able to find a lower mileage similar ride for around $16-$18K. Heck, they're selling brand new XLT's around here for less than $23K and EB's for $28K.
I would also recommend holding off a bit and get some return on your previous vehicle investment, even if only one year that will save you a load of $$$$.
IF there is nothing wrong with your almost paid for Explorer, and you don't need more cargo, passenger space or towing capacity, do stay with your present vehicle. You've just about maxed the depreciation on it, so now it's just basic costs. It's a good to keep for a few more years or until your needs change. Costs will be less in insurance, maintenance, fuel, repairs, etc on your Explorer.
Hope this helps.
