Glenn, the IH pump is something I've been wanting to do for a while, but just keep putting it off. After seeing that, I need to get my butt in gear and get one on there!
OK - took the plunge today and ordered my waterpump. Hope to get it in before the end of June. Thanks for the nudge.
Good deal Dan! I need to get one ordered too! You could drive up one weekend and we could have a water pump party! LOL! I promise I won't make you eat chicken livers! LOL!
If your water pump is in good shape its cheaper and easier to just put a coolant filter on. Just sayin'.
That's a good point Darin. The engine on the stand in my shop has a new water pump on it. I may just pull it off and do the filter. Does anyone know the Wix number for the filter, or a number I can cross?

If you want just the coolant filter, the NAPA number is 4070. Filter with SCA is 4071. For the WIX no. put a 2 in front of the Napa number.
Wow! That's some nasty stuff! I'm just curious, what did that stuff feel like? It doesn't look "gritty" it just looks like rust dust. Did you use distilled water when you filled the system? Again, just curious. I may need to move that mod up on my "to do" list... My biggest problem is that I have big plans and no money.
Distilled water is what is supposed to be used. I was just curious if all that crud came out of the engine or if there was a chance that some of it may have come from the water that was used when he refilled the truck.
Actually the reason of that crud there is because Glenn bought that filter from flee-bay and remanufacturated .
Well seriuosly is curious how many crud there in that short period of time
I just installed a new WP and add a coolant filter, I will change it soon and will open it and see whats inside and Ill report here, my problem is that is not my DD, so need some time.
I put the truck into the shop and torn it down never thinking about flushing the coolant system before hand. I however did drain the block on both sides before putting in new coolant and distilled water.

I thought about adding the filter as a bypass but I really don't like all those tubes running everywhere under the hood. So for an extra $80 I can make it really neat and clean in the engine. Plus, I know my coolant system hasn't been properly maintained, and with 230k it seems like a best solution is better than a good solution in this case. I also heard that the bypass filters often leak around the lines so it just seemed cleaner to change the water pump and git er done.
Bill, cancel that, Darin is correct, its the 4070. I made the mistake last night and looked at my fuel filter/water separator filter. I don't think you want that one, LOL. SORRY!
