How does the oil filter adapter attach to the block on these engines. I have been told you need to unscrew to piece that the oil filter threads onto when attaching it to the block. The threaded piece I am referring to does not unscrew from my 73 truck block.
Right now I cannot put the oil filter on because it hits the crossmember, I have looked at a friends 96 f-350 and another 87 f-250 and they use an adapter that turns the filter straight out the front of the motor underneath the power steering pump belt.
Can I use that adapter or will I have to use an aftermarker oil filter relocation kit?
Also there is two large holes in the crossmember already, do you think it would comprimise the structural integrity of the crossmember if I enlarge one the holes to allow the oil filter to pass straight through it.
Thanks for all of your help trying to put this truck back on the road as soon as possibly. In cases you are wondering I am changing from 7.3dsl and 5 speed to 460 and a C-6
