I got a great deal on a 1988 F150 300. The truck is cherry inside and out. One problem. In the summer after it gets really warmed up it doesn't want to restart. Turns over really slow. Finally after it cools down - starts again. I've noticed when it gets hot it starts to miss and puts out smoke from the tailpipe. The truck runs great if it keeps cool like in the winter. And yes it IS getting hot - antifreeze smell and the whole nine yards. Anyone got any ideas?
Check the cable going to your starter...
My truck would die after running for a while. Then it would not start until it cooled off a bit. I changed the cable out because it looked real back and problem stopped. Wouldn't hurt to crawl under and take a look at it. Being right next to the block tends to throw a bit of heat on it.
I've checked the timing and the starter cable. The previous owner started having these problems and a garage replaced the computer module and a lot of other distributor parts. Someone said maybe a valve or head gasket, but when it's cold the truck runs way too good to be something really serious. Any other suggestions? Thanks!
