i'm thinking of checking the price on these sensors and maybe keeping a spare "just in case" under the rear seat..don't want to be stuck on the side of the road somewhere if this happens again..thankfully it did this while in my driveway..last time it happened, it was at a red light..truck shut down, refused to restart.
I wonder, if you unplug these sensors(if you scan for the codes and unplug the right/failed sensor) will the truck atleast go into "limp mode" so you can get it to run again?
These things are really beginning to p!$$ people off! No other manufacturer has their trucks shut completely down by EGT sensors. This shutting down is as much of a safety concern as WHY it shuts down in the first place! Funny how airplanes use sensors like this all the time and they have a near ZERO failure rate, but these are failing right and left. I know the aircraft ones are a lot more expensive, but someone somewhere had got to have a sensor that will not fail as often. Coming down a 6-7% grade with 15,000 pounds behind me is one of the last places I would want a failure. But there is no way to know when! So it's Russian Roulette......
Even if you carry a spare, you then have to have some sort of monitor, scanner to figure out which one it is.....this is getting ridiculous. I can see numerous complaints forth coming. I know my work place has filed one.

I have checked with Exhaust Gas Technologies and they do not make a replacement (better) sensor (yet??). I have used their stuff for 20 years and never had a single one fail. Not sure where else to check but surely someone will come up with a replacement for these $5.00 pieces of junk!
Its funny you guys bring this up. Had all the deletes done to my truck and installed a Spartan tuner, so we robbed the sensors off the Ford exhaust that I removed, I think theres three of them, out of the two, (I broke one!) one worked and the other one failed not soon after. Here I am now about ten months later and I dont think that sensor is working very well or accurately, so we ordered one! And I think you guys are right, theres only the one brand. Wanted to purchase a better one but the one is all they have.......for now!? My truck didnt shut down or anything, the gauge just quit working.
you'd think that they would've made the ECM smart enough, to check it's "other" EGT sensors and realize that the EGT's are not super high, and maybe just go into limp mode...the trucks i drive at work (Sterlings, Freightliners, and even the old Macks) just have a warning light that comes on when the EGT's are super high..the trucks DON'T shut down! And sensor failures are rare..I wonder if a different brand of sensor can be modified to fit our trucks?

I would think for sure. As far as I know, they are just a type "k"... They read properly on my meter type K input and they read properly on my digitron. If I had any on my truck I would find the closest EGT has and splice into the factory connector. NOT SAYING THIS WILL WORK FOR SURE, I have nothing in my exhaust so I can't even try it.
